A young woman from Kailee Jones simply wanted to look her best. But when the technology graduate from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, went to see the cosmetic surgeon for lip fillers, she was left looking like a character out of a Disney-Pixar movie after she suffered from an extreme allergic reaction to the substances in the lip fillers themselves. Although the 23-year-old graduate said that she received just 1 ml injected into both her top and bottom lip, her lips began to balloon into massive shapes within one hour of her appointment time.
Because Jones wanted to calm the swelling, she applied ice to her recently filled lips. Unfortunately, that only seemed to make the problem worse. So, for the first forty-eight hours after she received her lip filler treatment, she was not able to talk or normally drink because she had incredibly sore, large “sausage lips” that left her family and friends in a state of utter shock.
In an effort to cheer up the Philadelphia woman, her friends told her that her large lips made her look like the delightful character Fungus from the Disney Pixar film, Monsters, Inc.
Jones wanted to share pictures of her botched lip filler procedure online because she wanted people to know that allergic reactions are possible. Not only are they possible, as was obviously the case for Jones, but they can also cause undesirable effects that may make it not worthwhile to undergo the procedure in the first place.
Kailee Jones said: “I’ve always had thinner lips, and they disappear when I smile, so I wanted to make them fit my face a little bit more. Everything went well at the appointment, and the first hour after, it started swelling, but I think it was just normal because they do swell.”
Not only were her lips painful after the treatment, but she also wanted to find a way to help them feel better, so she tried icing them to see if that could help reduce swelling.
“I kept icing them, and I think that the ice might have made it worse because then they really started to blow up. Once it hit after an hour or two, they were really big, and then it was 48 hours of them being that big. I couldn’t drink anything or even open my mouth to talk – I couldn’t speak. I would say they were eight times the size of my normal lips. It was unreal. I looked like the Monsters, Inc. character.”
Thankfully, Kailee Jones only had to deal with the large lips for three days. At that time, her lips returned to a more normal size, and she was able to return to normal life without needing further treatment or for the cosmetic surgeon to do more work on her lip fillers.
Kailee said: “The pictures don’t even really show how big they were. It was crazy. It was very painful. I was scared it was going to go to my throat, which is what doctors said it could do, and my throat could close basically.”
