On November 13, 2021, a bright young life came to a sudden end. Twenty-four-year-old Christy Giles was found dead outside of a Los Angeles-area hospital. Now, authorities are launching an investigation into the demise of the young model to see if her death was the result of foul play. According to her husband, Jan Cilliers, Giles was left for dead outside of the Southern California Hospital in Culver City, California, after she went out with friends for a night of partying.
Meanwhile, Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, one of Giles’s friends who went out with her that night, was left outside of another area hospital, according to a report by ABC7 Eyewitness News.
“Detectives are investigating the incident as an undetermined death, and it is an ongoing investigation,” the Los Angeles Police Department previously told E! News. Although detectives have not been able to confirm whether “foul play” was connected to Giles’s death, her case is being handled by the city’s homicide division.
Records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner office identified Giles’s case as “deferred pending additional investigation.”
What do we know for certain about Giles’s untimely death? Well, the date of her death is listed as November 13, 2021, and her place of death was listed as the hospital where her lifeless body was found.
The LAPD did announce that preliminary investigation showed that Giles could have died from the result of a possible drug overdose. However, the official cause of death has yet to be determined as results from postmortem toxicology take six to eight weeks to be completed.
Friends of the young model launched a GoFundMe page to cover funeral costs and to hire a private investigator to take a closer look at both Giles’s and Cabrales-Arzola’s cases. So far, the fundraiser has raised more than $100,000 and counting.
According to the fundraising page description, “Christy & her friend Hilda were allegedly drugged” and that 12 hours after the pair went out for the night of November 12, “three men in an all-black, masked in bandanas; with license plates removed, dropped Christy off on the sidewalk of a hospital.”
“Two hours later, the same vehicle with two masked men dropped her friend, Hilda, off at a different hospital,” the description read. “Hilda is currently in critical condition and fighting for her life.”
Although details are scared, Giles’s mother, Dusty Leslie Giles, told The Independent that her husband Cilliers, who was in San Francisco at the time of the incident, was able to track the young model’s location through her phone.
“My son-in-law has the mirror images of her text messages. My daughter got a brand new phone, and her old phone was still active, and at home, it’s backed up to iCloud, so you can see the text messages,” the distraught mother explained. “She also has alerts on received text messages, so you can see when she has read a text.”
According to mom, Giles’s last text was sent just before 6 am on November 13.
“My daughter texted Hilda, ‘let’s get out of here’ with a big wide-eyed emoji — like I am scared, we need to leave. Hilda agreed and said, ‘I’m getting an Uber.’ We know that Hilda did order an Uber. We know that approximately 5-10 minutes later, an Uber arrived. The Uber waited. The Uber left.”
