After she was stripped of her leadership positions in Congress, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene continues to make headlines for her controversial views. Now, the freshman representative posted a large sign in front of her office in Congress that declares “there are two genders” after her congressional hallmate Marie Newman put up a trans pride flag because her daughter recently came out as transgender.
Marie Newman and Greene have been feuding regarding a bill designed to provide more rights to transgender people. Newman supports the initiative, while Greene wants to kill it.
“Our neighbor, [Marjorie Taylor Greene], tried to block the Equality Act because she believes prohibiting discrimination against trans Americans is ‘disgusting, immoral, and evil,” Rep. Newman tweeted. “Thought we’d put up our Transgender flag so she can look at it every time she opens her door.”
Newman shared the update after she showed social media how close her office was to Greene’s. She shows herself putting up the LGBTQ flag.
In response, Greene, a Georgia Republican, posted a video with two emojis in the description – a winking face and a flag. The video copies the one put up by Newman and also features Greene installing the controversial gender sign that falsely claims, “There are TWO genders: MALE & FEMALE ‘Trust the Science!’”
In her video, Greene wrote as a caption: “Our neighbor, Rep. Marie Newman, wants to pass the so-called ‘Equality’ Act to destroy women’s rights and religious freedoms. Thought we’d put up ours so she can look at it every time she opens her door.”
Greene and Newman’s spat began after Greene moved to adjourn Wednesday’s House session so members can “rethink” the Equality Act, which is co-sponsored by Newman.
Greene fears that if Congress passes legislation to support transgender people, who are a small minority of people, women’s rights would be harmed.
“(This could) put trans rights above women’s rights – above the rights of our daughters, our sisters, our friends, our grandmothers, our aunts. It’s too much,” Greene said.
Newman sees things differently.
“Without the Equality Act, millions of Americans like my daughter can be denied housing, education, and more simply because they identify as transgender,” Newman wrote on Twitter along with a clip of her speaking on the House floor about the landmark bill. “I’m voting to pass the Equality Act for my daughter – the strongest, bravest person I know.”
Greene shared her outraged response on Twitter, “As mothers, we all love and support our children. But your biological son does NOT belong in my daughters’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams.”
The QAnon follower tweeted, “The so-called ‘Equality’ Act will destroy women’s rights, competitive female sports, and religious freedom,’ she tweeted. ‘It’s completely unconstitutional. OPPOSE!”
She then wrote, “Today, I rose in defense of women, girls, and children. The so-called ‘Equality’ Act needs to be struck down. This is about women’s and girls’ rights. I ask everyone to please pause, consider the ramifications, and VOTE NO on the so-called ‘Equality’ Act.”
